What is optomap Retinal Imaging?

Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain. While eye exams generally include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the retina is critical to verify that your eye is healthy. The image capture takes less than half a second and you can view it with your eye care provider.

Dr. Macali and the team at Macali Eye Clinic have been helping our family for over 7 years. The appo... intment always runs smooth and they are great about communicating every step of the way through your appointment. Our kids tend to be indecisive when it comes to picking glasses. Their team does an amazing job of understanding what the kids like and patiently helping them choose the right pair. My partner and I have been clients of Macali Eye Clinic for over 15 years. From scheduling, to exam... s, to eyeglass selections and fitting, everyone there is professional, competent, and genuinely accommodating. And, Dr. Macali has always been thorough with his exam assessments, along with a positive and comfortable bedside manner. Although we don’t have eye insurance, I highly recommend the full exam, because it’s more thorough and a good value, knowing that the annual exam results are also updated in our patient records. As a professional interior designer, I find the physical environment at this facility not only beautiful and carefully thought through, but also stress-free, calming and pleasant.
